A CHARITY which provides support to people with cancer in and around Okehampton is to receive a boost thanks to some kind hearted fundraisers.
Georgina Hodgson co-ordinated the fundraising effort which saw knitted chicks filled with crème eggs sold to celebrate Easter and raise over £700 for FORCE.
Her efforts were supported by colleagues at Okehampton College and friends at a local business who knitted chicks and donated eggs, which were then sold on at local outlets.
Georgina, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011 and still undergoes regular check-ups following treatment, has raised several thousand pounds for cancer charities in the last few years.
She said: 'Having FORCE in Okehampton on a Wednesday is a great resource for local people and saves them having to go up to Exeter.
'Over the last couple of weeks more money has come in and we have raised over £700!'
In 2014 the charity launched a new cancer support and information service in Okehampton to help sufferers of the disease and their families.
The charity has run a similar service in the grounds of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital for the last ten years. Its latest plans are focused on making cancer support services more accessible and community based.
There will be rooms for complementary therapies and support and a communal room where people can sit and chat and have a cup of tea with a FORCE nurse or friendly volunteer.
The FORCE team is at Castle Ham Lodge every Wednesday from 10am to 4pm.
