FARMERS and landowners looking to benefit from a DEFRA grant scheme to reward those who care for the environment can learn more about the initiative by attending events being put on in West Devon and East Cornwall. Under the Environmental Stewardship Scheme landowners will earn cash grants by undertaking a number of conservation activities on their land, from hedge maintenance to creating new habitats. Grants are to be awarded on the basis of a point scheme. Different activities have different point values and once a landowner or farmer has accumulated a certain number of points they are entitled to the grant. Rosemary Teverson, who is hosting a guided walk in Callington, said the events have been devised to simplify the complicated application process and terms of the grant for those eligible. Rosemary?s walk takes place at Dupath Farm on Wednesday June 15 at 6pm and finishes at 8pm. It is being organised by the Tamar Valley AONB service who say booking is essential. They ask anyone wanting to attend to call them on 01579 35168. Workshops are also being put on in Tavistock on June 16 and Okehampton on June 28 by Agri-Bip. To book a place on one of these call 0800 592872.
