SUNDAY morning services each month in St James Chapel designed to appeal to families with young children are proving a great success.
The brainchild of Okehampton team rector the Rev Stephen Cook, ?Early Bird? services are short and feature songs, bible stories and simple prayer.
Mr Cook wanted to make more use of the town centre chapel, which is popular with the public, and get more young people involved in the church.
He said this week his efforts seemed to be paying off: ?There have been some really good attendances at the first two services ? the last one took place during the dreadful storm of October 26 and we thought no-one would come, but the church was pretty full so we must be meeting a need.?
The rector said there had been a really happy atmosphere and people had enjoyed themselves.
?Lots of people have said how nice it is to see St James used for Sunday worship again,? he said.
After the services refreshments are provided for those who can stay and activities for the children.
?Early Bird? takes place on the last Sunday of each month at 9.30am so the next service will be this Sunday.
