THE Earl of Wessex will be at Roadford Lake next week to accept the new Jubilee sundial on behalf of the Queen.

The county of Devon commemorated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee with a striking 6m stainless steel sundial at Roadford. The six stainless steel pieces represent the six decades of her reign and are surrounded by granite time pieces. This unique gift from the people of Devon is set to become one of the 'must visit' features in the county.

Eric Dancer, Lord-Lieutenant of Devon said 'All those who visit this site from across the world, now and in the future, will be reminded of Her Majesty's 60 years of dedication and commitment to extraordinary public service and this fine county's acknowledgement of that selfless service.'

Devised by Devon's Lieutenancy, the project brought together manufacturing industry, craftsmen, cutting edge design and traditional skills to produce a unique gift to the Queen that can be enjoyed by everyone.

South West Water donated the land, Babcocks planned and executed the sundial and Midas undertook ground works during a very wet period. Funding contributions came from Devon businesses, various associations, local authorities and private donors.

South West Lakes Trust's director Evelyn Stacey praised the Lieutenancy for its incredible efforts in bringing the project to fruition: 'Roadford Lake provides a striking backdrop for such a wonderful tribute to The Queen. It is very easy to access so everyone will be able to enjoy it for years to come, seeing something different with the changing seasons.'

The Earl of Wessex will be at Roadford for the ceremony on the afternoon of Monday, October 15.
