THE voice of youth is being heard in West Devon thanks to a dynamic group of teenagers who have just carried out the most extensive survey of the hopes and wishes of young people in the Tavistock area for years.
A report detailing the facilities young people want to see was launched last Friday by the Tavistock and District Youth Council at West Devon Borough Council's offices.
Chief Executive David Incoll and the new Mayor of West Devon Richard Philips attended the presentation.
Members of the Youth Council were invited to the council offices to discuss the survey, which canvassed the opinions of young people aged 13-18.
Questions covered included facilities for sport and entertainment, youth information centres and transport. Significantly, more than 530 young people responded to the youth appraisal, and its findings will be distributed to organisations such as the Market and Coastal Towns Initiative.
Tavistock and District Youth Council is made up of about 15 young people, and covers an area stretching from Woolwell to Princetown.
Help with the formulation and analysis of the survey was given by local charity WestDEN, who were concerned that few young people felt they were ever involved in community decision-making.
