THE well-loved duo of Nancy Kerr and James Fagan combine a highly skillful and innovative performance with accessibility, warmth and stage presence. They can be enjoyed at the Plough Arts Centre, Torrington on Saturday, May 14. Rarely are duos so full in sound; Nancy?s earthy and exquisite fiddle and viola playing dances with the striking rhythmic texture of James?s guitar-bouzouki, while their rich singing both as soloists and in harmony evokes the stories of the songs they choose and write. They approach their music with energy and infectious smiles. Rapid musical communication with one another and the audience makes their performance spectacular and unforgettable. Nancy Kerr is the daughter of Sandra Kerr, well-loved singer-songwriter, and Northumbrian piper Ron Elliott. She first toured professionally at the age of 14 ? with Alistair Anderson?s group Syncopace. Since then she has been in constant demand as both fiddler and singer, working internationally with Eliza Carthy in their groundbreaking duo which produced 3 CDs with Mrs Casey Music. In addition to her skills as a singing fiddler, Nancy has an extensive knowledge of the traditional English ballads and a passion and flair for crafting her own. She has recorded with Sandra Kerr, Eliza Carthy, John Kirkpatrick, Sarah Jones, Brian Peters and many others. James Fagan also inherited his interest in music, being a member of Australia?s premiere folk-singing family, The Fagans. He is well-respected as a specialist player of the Irish flat-backed bouzouki. His strong and melodic singing has also made an impression wherever he performs. Box Office: 01805 624624.
