DUCHY College Sports students returned to the Stoke Climsland campus victorious this week having taken part in the South West Colleges climbing competition.
The event organised by the Bristol Climbing Centre, which saw colleges and schools from across the South West battle it out in a series of climbs.
A team of 13 students from various outdoor pursuits courses at the college; FdSc Adventure sports coaching, National Diploma in outdoor education level one and two, outdoor instructor training programme; took part in Monday's event.
The competition was split into a number of categories. All, except for one where the team came second, were won by Duchy students. Students triumphed in the top rope, bouldering, circuit, lead climbing and team events and came away with the overall winning trophy.
The competition is in its first year and there are moves towards organising a national competition, with Duchy hoping to go onto represent the South West and claim further glory.
Mark Garland, Duchy College outdoor pursuits lecturer, said: 'I am proud of what these students have achieved. We went expecting a really tough calibre of competition and that is what we got, but through the student's hard work and determination we came back with a whole host of medals and the overall trophy.'
Dave Linnell, principal of Cornwall College of which Duchy is part, said: 'I would like to congratulate the students and staff who represented Duchy College at this event and for their great achievement.'
