I WOULD like to welcome the call for a ban on drinking in the centre of our town (Times, October 21).

I?m sure most people will join in their condemnation of such drunken behaviour which has been recently brought to our attention. There will of course be many opinions expressed in respect to a solution and as a Christian minister I will pray that our town council and police force will be able to deal with the situation.

We can?t help feeling for the young people at the heart of this problem as well. Sgt Dave Anning has already called for the education of young people on the effects of alcohol and to get across certain messages.

As a minister of the gospel I have a certain message for them. In the first place the Bible warns that drunkards shall be shut out of heaven.

The Bible at the same time also speaks of the power of God to save such sinners. Therefore, the best solution gets right to the heart of the problem when the sinner comes to Christ for salvation.

?Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.? 1Cor.6.9-11
