POLICE in Tavistock this week thanked drivers for their care, following a period of snow and ice which caused dangerous driving conditions for motorists in West Devon and East Cornwall.

PCSO Kevin Williams said there were few incidents on Tuesday morning which could be attributed to the icy roads, other than a bus which collided with a hedge in the Bradstone area.

The Met Office had issued a yellow warning for black ice during the morning.

'Drivers seem so far to be have been very careful, for which we are very thankful,' said PCSO Williams.

Milton Abbot, Princetown and Shaugh Prior primary schools were closed on Tuesday after snow, ice and a fallen tree caused access problems.

School buses were also affected — the Beacon Bus was not serving Lydford and Brentor on Tuesday and some Holmans coach routes were not running.
