THE Tidy Tavi teams enjoyed yet another fine Saturday morning last week and covered large areas of Tavistock from Anderton Lane to the Callington Road, Greenlands and Butcher Park Hill.

The recent downpours had washed a lot of litter from hedgerows and gutters down into streets near the centre of town. Twenty-three bags of rubbish were collected by the 20 volunteers before the skies opened again during the afternoon.

Most streets in the centre of town were already fairly clean and tidy, testament to the efforts of the new council litter picker.

But other areas, especially along the route of the A386 and around the Morrisons store, were quite heavily littered.

A spokesman for the group said: 'It is obvious that a large proportion of rubbish collected was thrown from vehicles along the main roads.

The Tidy Tavi group expressed thanks to those who strive to clear up the West Devon Business park on a regular basis and to Quinns Menswear who sweep the pavement outside the shop most evenings.

Tidy Tavi also voiced thanks to TJ's fish and chip shop, Bob's cafe in the pannier market and Tavistock Carpets for providing the litter picking teams with refreshments during their work.

New volunteers join the group every month by coming along to the Wharf car park at 9.50am on the first Saturday. All are welcome, just bring gloves.
