A LEADER of Okehampton Youth Club this week issued an appeal to drivers to slow down, after a near miss involving a member of the club last week.

Elaine Chastey said drivers using the road around Okehampton College are travelling far too fast and she fears for the safety of young pedestrians in the area.

Elaine said now youth club leaders have passed first aid certificates, they can take the youngsters out of the club for activities like football or rounders during their Wednesday evening sessions.

But speeding motorists are causing problems.

Elaine said: ?On Wednesday night it was really dangerous ? the kids were all single file but people are just driving far too fast and we worry about getting up to the park safely.?

She appealed to drivers to slow down and keep an eye out for youngsters in the area.
