FOUR people had to be taken to hospital following an accident involving a pick-up truck and a private car at Brandis Corner, between Hatherleigh and Holsworthy. Fire appliances from Okehampton and Hatherleigh were joined by another from Holsworthy. The accident occurred shortly after 9am on Sunday. The driver of the blue Peugeot 406 was trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut out using power rescue tools. The driver sustained multiple injuries and had to be airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. Three people from the pick up van were also taken to the R, D & E and Derriford via air ambulance. One other person sustained minor injuries in the accident and was treated at the scene. Police say those injured were a 28-year-old man from Hatherleigh and two 20-year-old men from the Torrington area. The driver of the car comes from the West Midlands. Crews used hydraulic rescue equipment in the operation.
