FOR the first time in West Devon history a ?drive-in? songs of praise is being staged on Sunday, July 29. St Paul?s Church in Gulworthy came up with the idea as a way of introducing something new to the normal songs of praise events. All the churches within the Tavistock deanery have been invited to the event which is being held in an unnamed field half a mile from Gulworthy Cross on the B3257 Bere Alston road. Directions will be signposted on the day. Carole Maytum, church treasurer, said: ?One of the churchwardens, who owns the field, came up with the idea and everyone thought it was something different and that it was a great idea. We hope it will be a good get-together.? Music will be provided by Stannary Brass Band and a barbecue will follow. Entrance is free, but any donations in aid of the church will be welcome. This event, which starts at 6pm, is a culmination of St Paul?s Church gift day when people of the parish will come to the church during the afternoon to meet the Rev Michael Brierley.
