THERE was plenty of cause for celebration after West Devon riders Jo Luscome and Sally McIntyre competed at the David Broom Dressage Championship of Great Britain. Both girls qualified at the Cholwell Equestrian Centre earlier in the summer, Jo for the prelim and Sally for the prelim and the novice. The championship is run over three days with a warm up on the Friday and the Saturday and Sunday scores being added together for the overall results. Both classes had more than 30 competitors so the girls had a tough challenge. Jo from Monkokehampton with her 8-year-old bay gelding Reggie came first on Friday and Saturday and fourth on Sunday ? this made them the overall winner in the prelim class. Sally from Bratton Clovelly with her eight-year-old liver chestnut mare Spirit of Ecstasy, came second on Friday, third on Saturday and ninth on Sunday ? this gave them overall fifth in the prelimin class. They also secured a ninth and tenth in the novice ? a good result as this was only the third time at this level. Sally was very pleased with their results as she was once told she will never get a dressage test out of her horse. Both girls (pictured) came home to celebrations - as well as their success Jo got married the following week and Sally has her 18th birthday in mid-October.
