A SPORTS student from Princetown has landed her dream role within British Colleges Sport on the Student Council.

Katy Scorer from Princetown studied at Tavistock College and is now studying an extended Diploma in Sport at Duchy College. She has been playing in the South West Colleges rugby team for the past year and was able to play in the British Colleges Sport National Championships at University of Bath last year. Katy recently applied for a post on the British Colleges Sport National Youth Council and was successful in her application.

Her responsibilities will mean her becoming involved with a number of activities along with 13 other students from colleges around the country that were also selected for the role. They will endeavour to encourage and support young people and provide them with a voice in the world of sport. The Student Council will represent young people at national and regional meetings and will be ambassadors at competitions and events.

As well as being able to represent and help shape British Colleges Sport policies she will have her chance make a real difference to sport in colleges around the country. Katy will also have the opportunity to have training and development in leadership and enhance her CV.

A representative from British Colleges Sport said: 'It is great to see students who are passionate and who want to make a difference in their region, college, sport and wish to ensure their fellow students have a voice.'

Katy said: 'My goal is to go to university and study sport coaching or sport and physical education.

'Duchy College has offered me so many opportunities. Take every opportunity that you can get your hands on, because you will reap the benefits in the end.'

Course manager Darren Evans said: 'This is fantastic news for Katy and I know she was very proud to hear that she will be on the Student Council. I know she will do a fantastic job!
