A TAVISTOCK College student has been selected from more than 250 students across Devon to have his poem feature in a Young Writers? anthology. Deaglan Flynn-Samuels, 12, entered the secondary school competition,?I Have A Dream?, in February. The young writers could send poems in ranging from dreams they have experienced, childhood fantasies through to inspirational poems of their dreams for a better future. Deaglan?s poem reflects a dream for the future. He speaks about how he dreams one day racism will stop, and everyone in the world will get on with each other and not quarrel. Young Writers contacted him in May saying he had been selected to have his poem in the book, ?I Have A Dream Devon?. Deaglan said he was pleased and amazed to get his poem published. ?I Have A Dream Devon? will be due for publication on August 31, and will showcase the talents of students aged 11 to 18 from secondary schools across Devon. Young Writers, established in 1991, has promoted poetry and creative writing within schools for the past 15 years, by running annual nationwide competitions. It is to encourage children of all ages to read, write and enjoy poetry and give them a realistic chance of seeing their work published.
