Isca . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .1
Okehampton . . . . . . . . .1
OKEHAMPTON Hockey Team travelled to Exeter on Saturday to play Isca and, following the cancellation of the second team game, took the opportunity to give some younger players a run out.
Isca fielded an experienced side and they had the better of the early exchanges but Okehampton settled down and started to move the ball well.
Stewart Jarvis and Joff Stephens made good runs on the wing and Okehampton began to look dangerous going forward.
Okehampton caused Isca problems, but were lucky not to be caught out on the break where Mark Clapham was solid as ever in defence. Andy Harvey played well in goal.
The second half saw Okehampton pressing but not scoring. Isca took the lead from a short corner. Another change introduced Tom Forrester to the forward line and his deft touch helped Okehampton go forward.
Martin Jones, controlling the ball well, flicked it over the advancing keeper, only to see the ball hit the post.
Fortunately for Okehampton, Mike Reynolds was on hand to bury the rebound with a typical flourish. The draw was a fair result.
This week Okehampton begin their Gerrard League season with a home fixture against St Austell on the all weather pitch at 1pm.
The club always welcomes new players to their training sessions, which take place on Tuesdays between 8.15pm and 9.15pm. For more details contact Richard Jones on 01837 810167 or Simon Bourne on 01837 52881.
