FA Vase second round Bideford 2 Tavistock 0 THE Lambs bowed out of this year's competition at their first hurdle. Due to last year's exploits in getting to round four they along with Bideford were exempt until this round. It was a tough draw for the Lambs but they travelled to North Devon in good heart with the return of Will Stringer back from a seven-day suspension and Ryan Honey from a 70-day one. Mike Arscott was back after breaking his wrist. Andy Meeds saved from Lee Groves in a goalmouth scramble early on from a Robins' corner and from another Darren Hawkins saw his shot deflected for a corner. Kevin Parker caused problems down the left for the home side and almost gave the Lambs a shock lead on 30 minutes when he sent a shot in that Kenny Griffiths got a touch to put it into the path of Stringer. But he could not get the final touch to steer it into the net from close range. Parker saw another effort go just wide and Anthony Lynch for the home side went close as the first half draw to a close. There was still time for Honey, despite being pulled back, to put his cross in but there was no-one on the end of it. The home side went ahead in controversial fashion on the hour. Sean Cann was judged to have fouled Steve Orchard out wide. From the free kick by Lee Groves, Meeds under pressure from Matt Hare only half-cleared for the ball to fall kindly for Mike Southgate on the penalty spot to lash home through a crowd of players. Ten minutes later the home side sealed victory with a well worked goal. Kingston got to the by-line to whip in a fierce cross for Southgate to head back across goal for Lynch to turn and hammer it into the top of the net. It was the signal for Glynn Hobbs to come on for Honey. Meeds saved from Lynch before the Lambs sought to get back into the game with a late flourish and with more luck could have brought a dramatic finish. But Hobbs saw his effort hit a post and go across the goal from an Arscott free kick and Stringer headed over from close range, reaching Arscott's free kick deep into injury time. A spirited display from the Lambs that they will need to take into this week's crucial game when it is cup action again but this time in the Devon Premier Cup. l Fixtures — Saturday, Graddon Vending Devon Premier Cup.
