Duchy Knockout Cup Boscastle 5 Gunnislake 4 (aet) GUNNISLAKE?S nine-match unbeaten run came to an end in dramatic style as with two minutes of normal time remaining the visitors were leading 2-0. In the opening 45 minutes Boscastle got into good scoring positions, but poor finishing, last-ditch tackles and impressive goalkeeping by Andy Brenton kept them out. Gunnislake were causing problems through Matt Avery and Steff Kelly on the wings while up front Andy Brown and Jarryd Kelly stretched the Boscastle defence. In the second half Gunnislake got more on top as central midfielders Dean Martin and Lee Douglas stamped their authority. On 60 minutes a Douglas free kick was headed home by Ken Ord who, now in semi-retirement, was playing his first game this season, replacing the injured Simon Wakeham. On 75 minutes substitute Darren Sambells found Douglas who brilliantly swept the ball home from near to the halfway line. Boscastle pressed forward, but Gunnislake stood firm before on 88 minutes a good move saw the deficit halved. In injury time, Martin headed into his own net. The match went into extra time and Gunnislake were back in front as Martin got one at the other end as he headed home a Douglas corner. They scored again through Kelly but by the midway point of extra time Boscastle had pulled one back. On a muddy surface Boscastle pressed and with legs tiring they forced a defensive error and made it 4-4. Boscastle sent the ball into a crowded penalty area and scored the winner when a Gunnislake clearance struck a Boscastle player and rebounded into the goal. On Monday, December 27 Gunnislake travel to Polperro before entertaining St Minver the following Monday.
