IN excess of a staggering £8,500 was presented to a local charity on Sunday (May 13).

Around 200 walkers took part in the annual Leafy Lanes charity, organised by David Hocking.

The walk, now in its tenth year, was in aid of the Pals of Plymouth Oncology, Outpatients and Chemotherapy (POOCH) founded by David.

Two cheques were presented at the start of the walk; one from Asta Wood following her charity head shave which raised £4,919.27 and £2,000 from Steve Gerry presented in memory of his wife Paula who was the official guest at last year’s walk.

The starter for this year’s event from The White Hart in Bridestowe was 12-year-old Thomas Perkins.

‘It was a brilliant day and a great success,’ said David. ‘We had 200 walkers and we raised a further £1,500 on the day — and we still have sponsorship coming in.

‘A nice day for a great cause.’
