LYDFORD church bells were helped by ropes other than bell ropes recently.

Sixteen fundraisers aged 7-70 took part in a sponsored abseil from Lydford Church tower last Saturday week to raise money for the appeal to restore the bells and it is hoped that the event will have raised £1,500 when all monies are in.

The event was organised by Ivor Conybeare, and training and safety were in the safe hands of fellow Lydford resident, Major Glen Duff.

The event was said by one of the participants to have been well-supported and 'absolutely wonderful'.

Some abseilers were pleased to reach the bottom, whereas others were eager to do it again.
