YOUNG people from across the South West will come together in Okehampton this weekend (March 4 to 6) to celebrate a year of achievement in promoting the qualities of Dartmoor National Park through projects in their local communities.

Okehampton will host the weekend in the youth hostel. The young people are part of the Mosaic programme — led by the Campaign for National Parks —which promotes Dartmoor National Park to their peers.

The weekend will be the 75th anniversary of the CNP. Youngsters will be getting involved in activities, including horse riding, art workshops and mountain biking. And they will be coming up with ideas to promote National Parks so that more young people will get involved to help look after them. The young people will also be volunteering and undertaking conservation work on Dartmoor. Its awards ceremony will be led by Bill Hitchins and John Dyke — chairmen of Dartmoor and Exmoor national parks.
