DOG handlers from the Tavistock branch of the Dartmoor Rescue Group were scrambled to Bodmin Moor last Friday, to rescue lost holidaymakers.

The team were called by police at around 8pm after a man and two boys from the Shropshire area called on a mobile phone to say they were lost in thick brambles near St Breward.

Bud Francis, DRG section leader, said: 'They'd been following a legitimate footpath but they got into difficulties and found themselves stuck in a dense bramble thicket.

'Our dog team were immediately called — luckily they live in the Liskeard area. The dogs found them and they managed to beat a path in to them.'

Mr Francis said the footpath was overgrown and the walkers had become disorientated and were wary of getting themselves even more lost

The rescue took less than two hours thanks to the help of the mobile phone.
