OUR sheep graze on Sheepstor and so far this year from April onwards five lambs have been badly bitten, of which two died, also a ewe who has since recovered.

On October 1 we caught a ewe reported (by a lady living in the village) as having a broken hind leg, only to find her ham string and most of her hind quarter had been torn away. My guess is that it must have been a large dog to have caused so much damage.

I feel quite sick to think there may have been others who have crawled away and died because an irresponsible owner could not be bothered to pick up the phone.

An anonymous message would be a good starting point, to the Dartmoor National Park office at Princetown.

Please, please keep your dog on a lead until you are sure it won't chase and savage defenceless sheep.

Since writing this letter yet another ewe has been put down on October 5 at Nuns Cross, having had her hind leg broken in two places. We do, on this occasion have both dog and owner.
