A CALL has been made to create a 100-strong choir to sing for Cornwall and raise the mighty Man Engine up to the skies.

The Man Engine is the largest mechanical puppet ever constructed in Britain and winner of the ‘best arts project’ in the National Lottery Awards 2017.

And he returns this Easter for his much-anticipated resurrection tour.

However, the Man Engine can only transform to his full 11.2, height if enough people sing — and anyone can be part of his choir.

The team behind the ‘big boy’ himself, Golden Tree Productions would like to invite enthusiastic singers to come along for free to the pending choir rehearsals and learn the lament Sing from the Chamber to the Grave and the anthem Hard Rock Cornish Miner in Geevor, Heartlands, Lostwithiel and Tavistock.

People don’t need to be professional singers, or even formal choir members — the call-out is for people who simply want to come and put the weight of their voices behind the Man Engine.

To be part of the Man Engine Choir people just need to attend at least two of the rehearsals and as a big thank you for their much-appreciated participation, Golden Tree Productions is offering one free ticket to each choir member for any of the Afterdarker perfor-mances in Geevor, Heartlands, Lostwithiel or Tavistock.

The Man Engine’s creator and director of Golden Tree Productions Will Coleman said: ‘For those of you who were lucky enough to experience the mighty Man Engine back in 2016, you will know that it was the singing that really ‘powered-up’ the emotion within the crowds so the role they play is absolutely crucial during the events. I must stress that you don’t need to be a professional singer, just full of passion and pride!’

There will be rehearsals in both Tavistock and Lostwithiel led by Emma Mansfield. The Tavistock rehearsals are on Sunday, March 11 from 2pm to 4pm, Sunday, March 25 from 2pm to 4pm and Sunday, April 1 from 2pm to 4pm at the King’s Community Church Rooms, Pixon Lane.
