THE Lions Club of Tavistock takes great pride in organising events for the town and in the process raising money for local schools, clubs, organisations and local charities.

In order to publicise our activities we spend a limited amount of money on press advertising, we distribute the Mardi Gras magazine for Carnival Week, the cost of which is financed by the advertising and we also put up a number of street banners.

It was reported in this paper on July 9 that one of these banners had been removed from outside B S and J S Williams in Pixon Lane and now unfortunately a second one that was on the wall at the college end of the Meadows has also been stolen.

It will cost around £250 if the club decides to risk replacing these banners and this money will have to come from that which we have raised during the year, thus depriving the local community of further donations from the club.

If anybody knows the whereabouts of these banners can they please contact me on 01822 615526 or can the person or persons who have them, please drop them into the Union Inn, marked for my attention.

On a much brighter note, our collection on Carnival Day of £2,515 has been swelled by a further £11, following the sale of all the foreign coins that were dropped into our bucket, so our thanks go to the staff at HSBC for sorting that out for us.

Incidentally, the yellow metal bracelet that was found in a collection bucket has still not been claimed so it has now been handed into Tavistock Police Station — I suppose if it is not claimed, we could sell it to help pay for the banners. Now there's a thought!
