I WRITE concerning the latest 'sitting on hands' exercise by Tavistock Town Council regarding the upkeep of the unmade land in Pixon Lane.

Works superintendent Wayne Southall stated that keeping the land usable for vehicles took 'two, or three days' worth of work a month, plus materials'. I would dearly love to know what works have been carried out and where the materials have been placed to keep the site usable! I've never seen workman carrying out any repair work on the holes, ever!

The site is currently a mess with deeply rutted, water-filled holes that threaten to destroy the suspension of all cars crossing the site. Anyone who has to cross to get to the Scouts, King's, the rifle club, or the squash club, knows the whole area is in an appalling state. Drivers have to do a zig-zag Monte Carlo crossing method and the idea of putting up signs saying that people and vehicles should use the site at their own risk, is ludicrous! They do that already!

King's and the squash club regularly take on the responsibilty and cost of filling up some of the deeper holes, in a vain attempt to stop further damage to vehicles. Recently, King's and the squash club spent a lot of money replacing and improving sewerage disposal, damaged in part by the movement of heavy vehicles.

I am tempted to think that instead of Sir Francis Drake, after his round the world voyage, saying 'Does the Queen still live?', he might have said, 'Does the council still discuss what to do with the Pixon Lane Car Park?'

Come on, Tavistock Council, the whole area is not 'best left well alone'. Don't be so supine, do something useful with the site.
