Lanreath 2

Bere Alston United 0

IF ever evidence was needed to show that good players do not necessarily make a good team, this was it, as Bere fielded one of their strongest available starting elevens only to then produce one of their worst team performances of the season.

Bere had started the better against their lowly hosts but in a first half of few chances only had two worthwhile efforts of note.

Midway through the half Dan Follett had a good header well saved by Jamie Castle and the Lanreath keeper was on hand again five minutes later to thwart Chris Bray.

With the bobbly pitch giving both teams problems, Bere couldn't get their passing game going into the second half and fell behind on the hour when a poor clearance from Will Westlake was seized upon by James Barrett who crossed for Ray Clarke to head home.

Paul Simpson forced Jamie Castle into another smart save as Bere went in search of an equaliser which, in truth, never really looked like coming as they were guilty of giving away possession cheaply and pumping too many long balls forward that, in the main, were dealt with comfortably by the Lanreath back line.

In the closing minutes Lanreath added a second when Brett Watkin's mishit shot deflected off Jason Clancy past a stranded Jack Dixon to a miserable afternoon for Kevin Taylor's lacklustre side.
