Tavistock AFC 0

St Austell 0

THIS was another disappointing result for the Lambs, after dominating the first half creating chance after chance. The game should have been over by half time with the home team going in with a comfortable lead.

This was not the case due to a brilliant performance by the visitor's goalkeeper Garry Penhalligan who literally kept his side in the game during the opening half.

The first chance came as early as the third minute when Sargent sprung the visitors defence but he was denied by Penhalligan. A good move saw John James find Sargent and his return pass found James racing into the penalty area but his fierce shot went inches wide of the target.

In the 19th minute a cross from Jarryd Kelly found Hallett on the angle of the area but his fantastic volley was brilliantly pushed away by the visitor's keeper.

The Lambs were dominating the game at this stage and minutes later John Wyatt made a great run down the left but his shot went way over the bar. Penhalligan produced another blinding save in the 28th minute after a good move between Wyatt, Hallett and Sargent found John James.

Three minutes later Andy Sargent was again denied by the brilliance of the St Austell keeper.

Andy Sargent had a one on one with Penhalligan, but his shot was blocked and rebounded back into Sargent's path, but his header was cleared off the goal line by a defender.

The start of the second half was similar to the first with chances going bagging, but whatever the home team could get on target was dealt with by some excellent goal keeping by Penhalligan.

It was evident the Lambs were becoming frustrated and for some reason they started to switch tactics by using the long ball. The St Austell back four found this much easier to deal with, and were winning second ball more, and by doing, so came more into the game The visitors were now beginning to put some pressure on the home defence, and the home team seemed to become very edgy.

In the 65th minute a free kick from Dave Hallett found John James eight yards from goal and his powerful downward header looked destined for the corner of the net but Penhalligan produced an astonishing save throwing himself to his right to push the ball away for a corner.

Then it was Dean Smith's turn to be called into action and he made a fine save to keep the scores level. Minutes later the Lambs had a real scare when a free kick found a player unmarked in the area, but his header grazed the cross bar.

The game was now end to end with both sides looking to take all three points, but it was the home side that came closest to breaking the deadlock when Andy Sargent beat his defender before squaring the ball across the six yard box but Martyn Sullivan shot was cleared to safety by a defender on the goal line.

The Lambs will be gutted to have dropped two points when they could have won by a considerable margin.
