THE industrial archaeology of Meldon will be the topic of discussion at the first of Okehampton and District Local History Society's new programme of talks.

Mark Norman will discuss the history of the industrial past of Meldon, including the quarry, which was mothballed last year. The talk is on Wednesday May 9 at the Ockment Centre from 7.30pm.

Other talks in this year's programme include the history of the Ten Tors Challenge by Simon Dell, and Paul Rendell telling the story behind the Dartmoor location of the blockbuster film War Horse.

Meetings of the society are held on the second Wednesday of each month in the Ockment Centre at 7.30pm. New members are always welcome. Anyone interested should contact Malcolm Francis-Laing on 01837 840158. Non-members can attend meetings at a charge of £2 per person.
