TAVISTOCK College's youngest students have planted trees as part of an initiative to increase their environmental knowledge.
The Year 7 science club members decided where to place 25 silver birch, beech and willow trees obtained from the Woodland Trust by biology teacher Sue Day.
Teacher and Science Club organiser Mike Harris said: 'The club members were happy to help improve the atmosphere around the college and raise ecological awareness. They were very enthusiastic and excited as most had never planted a tree before.'
The science club meets every week after school to carry out practical experiments and activities and boost students' interest in the subject.
The group will now build raised beds and plant vegetables using the equipment purchased through the Morrisons voucher scheme.
'We will look at food production and food miles,' said Mr Harris. 'They'll learn that we can each do things in our everyday lives which make a difference to the environment.'
