ALLOTMENT holders will be proudly showing off their plots at the grand opening of the Fatherford Road Allotments next weekend. The official opening at 10.30am on Saturday, August 19, will be followed by an open house from 11am until 3pm. Plot holders will be available to show what they are growing, answer questions and outline plans for the future. The event has been organised jointly by the Okehampton United Charity and the Fatherford Road Allotment Association. A new communal shed, funded by Okehampton United Charity and a lottery grant has been constructed. Free refreshments will be served at the grand opening. A fundraising raffle will be held at 2.30pm to support improvements that have been made and are planned by the Allotment Association. Raffle items include an indoor gardening kit, wine, an acrylic painting of an otter, plus a large basket of garden produce picked from the allotments that morning. The opening coincides with National Allotments Week.
