A HORNDON couple who recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary raised £350 for the Precious Lives Appeal for a new children's hospice for Plymouth and Cornwall.

Jim and Mabel Palmer have lived all their lives in Horndon and went to school together.

When they celebrated their wedding anniversary on June 2 they asked their friends and family to make a gift to Children's Hospice South West rather than give them presents and as a result the sum of £350 was raised.

Hospice spokesperson Judy Pride said: 'With lovely supporters like Jim and Mabel, the new hospice will soon become a reality and their donation will be an everlasting testament to their marriage.'
