ROTARY clubs across Devon and Cornwall are on a recruitment campaign for 2017 in response to a recent Public Health England document saying that volunteering is good for your health.

This is a time of the year when people resolve to do more for themselves and their communities over the next 12 months and Rotary has the perfect solution.

Rotary Membership chair for Devon and Cornwall Martin Taylor, who is leading the campaign, said: ‘By volunteering with Rotary you know that you will be changing people’s lives for the better and benefiting your overall health and wellbeing too.’

The chief medical officer Dame Sally Davies said: ‘Staying in work, volunteering or joining a community group can make sure people stay physically and mentally active for longer.

‘The health benefits of this should not be underestimated.

Being part of Rotary is more than just giving back to the community by volunteering.

‘It is also about you bringing your skills, experience and enthusiasm to help it thrive, whilst making great friends along the way.’

Sam Cross from the Rotary Club of Plymouth said: ‘Rotary has introduced me to new friends and made me smile more than I have for a long time.

‘When I started self-employment I felt lonely as I was working on my own. Rotary has introduced me to a world of professional people, who have become my friends.

‘We work as a team to help others and I am so much happier now.’

Whether you are volunteering by helping your local community or responding to international disasters, there is a project or activity to suit everyone.
