PRO-EUROPE campaigners were meeting shoppers in Okehampton’s Red Lion Yard on Saturday as part of a nationwide day of action by campaigners calling for the public to be given another chance to vote on Brexit.
Devon for Europe’s stall in the yard coincided with the very first weekly Okehampton Market being held in the yard, bringing together producers, foodies and makers. The campaign group’s volunteers met with shoppers and discussed concerns.
The apolitical group is among thousands across the country calling to be given a so-called ‘people’s vote’ on the terms of the proposed agreement to leave the EU, including the option to remain in the European Union.
Alex Pilkington, Chair of Devon for Europe, said: ‘With Brexit turning out to be much more complicated and costly than the people were told during the referendum, we are demanding a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal, with the option to remain.’
