TAVISTOCK Swimming Club jointly hosted with Devonport Royal the round three final of the Cornwall and West Devon League at Kelly College against St Austell and Penzance.

Tavistock had a convincing win with many fine performances from the swimmers. An outstanding 100m backstroke swim by Peter Freedman gave him a national qualifying time, a great achievement. Alex Clift-Matthews broke the current club record for the 17/over 100m breaststoke.

Individual first places were gained by Emma Bennett, Matthew Henry, Matthew Gould, Amy McGowan, Robert Eselby, Rachel Paine, Peter Freedman, Amy Warnett, Iain Court, Philippa Smith, Ian Pownall, Beth Hellewell, Nick Jones, Gavin Court, Harriet Sparks, Eve Hellewell (2), Alex Clift-Matthews, Matthew Lake, Rosie Yull, Peter Welsh. Individual personal best times were achieved by Katherine Chalmers, Matthew Gould, Robert Eselby, Peter Freedman, Amy Warnett, Nick Jarman (2), Harriet Sparks, Ian Pownall, Alex Clift-Matthews, Sophie Ewings, Christopher Ralph.

Saturday saw Tavistock swim to first place in a friendly gala, hosted by the club at Kelly College and organised by Jenni Henry. Honiton were a close second with Dawlish third and Bude in fourth place.

Spectators were a bit thin on the ground and the competition seemed to pass quite quickly - surely nothing to do with another sporting event held on the same evening! Individual first places were gained by Sophie Ewings, Emma Bennett, Eve Hellewell, Matthew Lake, Heather Fell (2), Nick Jones, Caroline Ball (2), Amy Warnett, Matthew Henry, Peter Freedman, Eve Hellewell, Peter Welsh, Gavin Court, Iain Court.

Individual personal best times were achieved by Rebecca Mills, Alison Kelly, Sophie Ewings, Nick Jarman, William Crocker, Matthew Lake, Heather Fell, Katherine Chalmers, Gavin Court.
