TAVISTOCK Squash Club were drawn away for the first round of the Devon Cup (Plate) Competition, having lost by the narrowest of margins to Lenwood in the first round.

The team travelled to Fursdon — a Plymouth club side — in a confident manner on the back of several good league wins during the last few weeks.

Tim Wallis playing number 5 for Tavistock completed another comfortable win, maintaining his unbeaten record in both league and cup matches. This record is even more impressive remembering that this is his first season playing in the Devon Squash league.

Stuart Cox's recently improved form helped him cruise to a quick victory leaving Tavistock requiring only one more win to secure the tie.

This didn't come from Colin Grice who as it transpired, played the only close match of the evening. He failed to adjust to the cold courts and continued to feed his opponent with loose returns off serves and consequently found scoring very difficult.

Andy Gauler who has had a poor run of results recently in his league matches wasted no time in securing his match and therefore the tie.

Tavistock number 1 Steve Tripp's game never put his result in doubt. His opponent ran and retrieved well in the first game but could not continue at the pace in the following games.

This result means that Tavistock Squash Club will meet Devon and Exeter first team in the next round this month.
