BOVIS Homes has submitted its plans for a new development of up to 750 homes to the south west of Tavistock.
The proposals have been submitted to West Devon Borough Council following a period of consultation in February, which included an exhibition, meetings with local residents and councillors, and a dedicated website.
The application includes outline plans for the whole site and detailed proposals for the new access off Callington Road at Monksmead.
Bovis Homes strategic land director Nevin Holden said: 'We have received a lot of feedback from local people and organisations about these proposals.
'Some of it has been enthusiastic and some has expressed concerns. We've endeavoured to talk through these concerns, and where possible we have amended the plans to reflect the feedback.
'That has included removing the care home from the proposals, limiting the heights of the buildings fronting Callington Road and providing more detail for the pedestrian and cycle links to the town centre.
'I would like to thank the Tavistock community for their contribution to developing the plans and I believe we have a set of proposals that offer an excellent opportunity for the area and represent a well-designed, high-quality community of which the town can be proud.'
West Devon Borough Council has allocated the site off Callington Road in its Local Plan for a new development of up to 750 homes, education facilities and public open space.
The development is linked to the reinstatement of the Bere Alston to Tavistock rail line.
Devon County Council held a public consultation on the rail line at the end of January which was followed soon after by an exhibition by Bovis Homes.
Bovis Homes' plans are available on the council website http:apps.westdevon.gov.uk/planningsearch/default.aspx?shortid=00554%2f2013 where the public will have further opportunity to comment on them during the council's consultation process.
