TAVISTOCK Community Primary School held an especially summery art and enrichment day last week.
The day, which Andrea Holden, art co-ordinator and class teacher, said was 'really successful' revolved around Vincent Van Gogh's famous 'sunflowers' painting.
The whole school was busy throughout the day using observational drawing skills and other artistic methods to represent the flowers.
The still life drawings which involved the use of marks and lines, shading, annotating, toning, shadowing and cross hatching acted as a starting point for children to develop using various methods.
The foundation group used a range of painting and printing to recreate the sunflowers as well as creating their own flowers from paper plates.
Year 1 progressed from observational drawings to a mixed mediums approach of collage.
Year 2 used water-colours to paint sunflowers and had a go at 'ink bleeding' onto coffee filters, while Year 3 attempted material weaving.
Year 4 experimented with techniques ranging from ceramics to chalk pastels and glue printing.
Year 5 created its images using the method of quilling, which required children to roll thin strips of paper to make different shapes and spirals, while Year 6 pupils used photography and video techniques to create images of different sections of the sunflower.
Andrea said: 'We had some lovely feedback and parents were stunned at the skills the children had developed.
'It was fantastic to explore the wide range of skills within the curriculum, the children loved it as well and have already asked for more!'
