IT was disappointing to read of Tavistock Town Council's decision to grant the opening of our market for Sunday trading. This, of course, flies in the face of our Christian faith.
We believe that God has set aside one day in the week for Himself and that this day should be observed by all mankind. In the words of the Lord Jesus Christ in Mark.2.27: The Sabbath was made for man‚ and all men, in the words of the fourth commandment are expected to: Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy.‚
This special day has, however, been ignored in this decision and will be marred with all the efforts to trade on that day. I do not believe that the town will prosper in the end as a result of this move.
It was the renowned atheist, Voltaire, who set out to destroy our Christian faith, who said: 'I can never hope to destroy Christianity until I first destroy the Christian Sabbath.'
Even if they have not set out to do so, the council's decision will still serve to destroy the Christianity which made Britain great.
