A LAST ditch attempt to trace the owner of a cat lost in the recent snow storms is being made by the Stoke Climsland woman who found her and nurtured her back to health.

Jane Puttock has placed posters around local villages and in pet shops and post offices, contacted vets, the Cats Protection League and even registered the cat on the National Pet Register.

But more than two weeks later she is still none the wiser as to the ownership of the cat she has affectionately named 'Charm'.

Charm appeared in Mrs Puttock's garden on February 3 when the first big fall of snow hit the area. The next day she appeared again: 'I went and felt her ribs and she was so thin. I picked her up in my arms and she started purring and that was when I let her in.'

Since then the caring cat lover has fed, bathed and applied plenty of TLC to the stray animal who she says is 'completely adorable'.

'I have spent hundreds of hours on this cat and I am determined to find the owner or a new home for her. I adore her but unfortunately my two cats don't so I cannot keep her.'

Mrs Puttock said her feeling was that Charm, who is all black except for her tail which is auburn, and green eyes, had been fending for herself for a few weeks but was not a farm cat.

'She has been a house cat because she is very loving and likes nothing better than to sit on your lap and purr. She didn't even mind me giving her a bath.

'She goes frantic when she hears the rattle of crockery because she knows it means food. She was obviously starving so I am very glad I got to her before anything bad happened.'

'The best thing would be to reunite this cat with its owner but failing that to find a new home where she can get lots of attention.'
