A TEAM of architects from West Devon have been awarded Cornwall?s top design award for one of their buildings. Coombe Mill Farm near Pillaton, which once featured in a Waitrose advert, was designed by Stephen Whettem Architects of Tavistock and has been selected as one of Cornwall?s best new buildings of the past year by the Cornish Buildings Group. A striking mix of the contemporary and the traditional, the family home is constructed from locally-sourced stone and slate. Designers say they have tried to replicate the distinctive aspects of orthodox Cornish design. Representatives from the design team were presented with the honour at a special reception and ceremony in Truro?s Lander Gallery recently. ?We were thrilled to be given this prestigous award which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team,? said Mr Whettem. An expanding practice with a growing reputation accross the region, the honour is the second awarded to the team by the Cornish Buildings Group.
