THIS unique holiday home situated on the edge of Belstone is to go under the hammer at a Whiddon Down auction next month. The remote two-room Riverside Chalet has a corrugated iron roof, wooden walls and no electricity or running water ? but is expected to fetch around £40,000. Chagford-based auctioneers and estate agents Rendells, who are selling the property, say it represents ?a most unusual opportunity to acquire the freehold of a little piece of Dartmoor?. The chalet, thought to have been built as an artist?s studio in 1920, has been used as a holiday home by generations of the current owner?s family for the past half a century. It has a living room, which is also used as a bedroom, and a kitchen. The enclosed and sheltered garden has evergreen and deciduous trees with spectacular granite outcrops throughout. With moorland on three sides and the River Taw on the fourth, the chalet is overlooked by Cawsand Beacon which, at 1,800ft, is one of the highest spots on Dartmoor. Mike Dunse, property manager for Rendells said: ?We don?t want to raise anyone?s hopes ? this cannot be redeveloped as a home or have anyone living there permanently at all. It is really to be used as holiday chalet as it has been used for the past 50 years.? The property is being sold at auction by Rendells at the Parish Hall, Whiddon Down on Saturday, May 7.
