Tavistock U13s 7
Ivybridge U13s 31
With rapidly drying conditions and a strong wind Tavistock elected to play into the wind for the first half and started to use their powerful forwards in the close encounter up front.
With the strength of O?Neill, Lashbrook, Matt Smith, Morgan and Leeson showing in the tight, their opponents soon realised this was not going to be an easy game. With quick heels from Roberts the ball was worked away from the base of the scrum by Leeson to Milligan and James, making blind-side breaks that stretched the opposition defence right up to the touchlines.
Their opponents started to use their quick handling backs whenever they gained possession and went into half-time with three scores to their name.
From the start of the second half Tavistock, now playing with the slope and the wind, started to attack, using the pace of Warlow from full back, the jinking runs of Thompson supported by the tireless effort of Bancroft, Smerdon and Robinson in the back row.
With Cuthbert and Hall attempting to run the ball at every opportunity the breaks never appeared and luck started to run out for Tavistock.
A further try from their opponents enhanced the run of bad fortune. Tavistock realised, too late, to use the wind to their advantage and following a long kick James drove over for a try that was converted by Milligan to give a score for the home side.
The result recognised the achievement of the squad to be among the top four clubs in the county.
