TAVISTOCK Rotary Club is due to mark the start of the national Alzheimer?s Society Awareness Week with a special event in the town centre this weekend. A Dementia Awareness information caravan will be parked in the Guildhall car park on Saturday July 1, coinciding with the first meeting of the new Dementia Café being held at the Anchorage Centre on the same day. The Rotary Club is also planning a full scale campaign across the area to raise awareness not only of the disease but also the plight of the many carers in the region who are left to look after a loved one with little support or respite. The information caravan will be in the town centre for most of the day ? anyone who would like more information about dementia is welcome to call in. The Dementia Café is open to anyone with dementia or anyone with an interest in the condition. Although primarily a social event, it will also provide an opportunity for information, education and guidance and is being held between 2pm and 4pm.
