HARROWBARROW Primary School and Playgroup are both celebrating after receiving some good news. Ofsted inspectors described Harrowbarrow as a good school with outstanding features, following their recent visit and the pre-school playgroup has received a £1,000 donation from the Co-op. A happy school with high expectations where pupils? standards are above average, said the Ofsted report. Pupils? attitudes and behaviour was said to be often excellent and contributed to their good learning. Teaching was consistently good and links with nearby schools outstanding. Pupils were well cared for, guided and supported and each was treated as an individual, given unflagging support in their personal and academic development. The report also said the school was well led and managed and the headteacher was well supported by a close-knit team of staff. Key areas for improvement were ensuring that marking provided pupils with clear guidance about how to improve their performance and developing the roles of the senior leadership team to move the school on at an even better pace. Headteacher Mark Tamblyn (Pictured left with pupils) said he was delighted by the report: ?Much of the success was due to the consistent and co-operative effort from pupils, parents, staff and governors.? Meanwhile, chairman of Harrowbarrow and Metherell Pre-School Playgroup Committee Sharron Wilde is thrilled with the donation from the Co-op. She said: ?We are truly overwhelmed by the generosity of the Co-operative Community Fund. Some of our equipment is in desperate need of being replaced and updated and now we have the opportunity to do this.? A year ago the playgroup was under threat after a decline in child numbers but there has been a dramatic turnaround thanks to local support and the hard work of the committee.
