A DECISION on a major funding boost for West Devon schools has been put back by Devon County Council.

D-Day on how millions of pounds of extra cash would be allocated between bidding schools was to have come at next week's executive committee meeting.

Now schools will have to wait until March 6 to find out if they will receive a spring boost to the coffers.

West Devon and Torridge MP John Burnett was 'disappointed' at the delay but optimistic that the news would be good.

David Hutchings, County Council spokesman, said: 'Our bids to the government have been very successful, so we need a little more time to get the programme right.'

A bid of more than £1.5 million will be considered for Tavistock College, plus cash for Okehampton schools.
