Old Technicians 19
NORTH Tawton took on high flying Technicians in this league contest.
North Tawton, still at the base of the league, are no pushover these days despite some heavy defeats in the past.
The game, in a bitterly cold wind, was not a classic, but was played in the best of spirits. Making his debut for North Tawton was Danny Wonnacott at prop.
Despite a tentative opening by both sides it was Old Techs who started the scoring with a Jimmy Carter penalty. When No 8, Steve Henwood, got a deserved pushover try from the scrum, things looked bleak for North Tawton.
But their spirit was always to the fore, led by captain Neil Peters.
A little against the run of play winger Simon Ball for the Old Techs got a try on the stroke of half time to put the visitors 16-0 up.
North Tawton made only one change at half-time when Adam Wise came in for wing forward Rob MacBain.
As usual, North Tawton came back to life in the second half and their confidence grew. They took the game to the Plymouth side.
But despite excellent pressing by the Denis brothers and by winger Ross Lawrence, North Tawton were unable to breach the Old Tech's line.
Against the run of play Old Techs got their final score with a penalty by Carter. Another good display by North Tawton as they slowly improve their game.
They are having a mix and match day against North Tawton Soccer on Boxing Day, kick off 11am.
