Tavistock 15 St Austell 8 TAVISTOCK entertained St Austell in a rearranged league fixture on Saturday and avenged an early season defeat with this emphatic victory which keeps Tavistock in third place three points behind Falmouth. The match opened with the two sides trading penalty goals, one for Tavistock from Josh Sutton was matched with an effort for St Austell from Ian Venner. Tavistock then took the lead midway through the half with a try from winger Joe Lane. Tavistock had won ball and moved in left and right across the park probing for the gap which was exploited by Joe to score. As half time approached Tavistock were reduced to fourteen men when scrum half Lee Greatrex was sent to the sin bin for a professional foul. The Tavistock defence however held firm and went into the break with an eight points to three lead. Immediately after half time Tavistock increased their lead when after a driving maul from the forwards flanker Will Brown scored a try that Josh Sutton converted. For the second week running early in the second half Tavistock introduced former Launceston prop Steve Rush who scored their third try after a line out catch and drive. Sutton converted the try. As the game drew toward its conclusion scrum half Lee Greatrex got the fourth try. The Tavistock forwards won a scrum in the St Austell twenty two and Greatrex exploited the blind side to score, Josh Sutton converting. St Austell grabbed a late consolation score when James Earp scored a try. This weekend Tavistock entertain league leaders Tiverton at Sandy Park in the Cornwall and Devon League when they will again be looking to reverse an early season defeat. Kick off 2:30pm.
