ONE of Tavistock?s former mayors and an honoured burgess of the town died last week at the age of 86.
Norna Beadle was an art teacher who taught at Tavistock Grammar School and continued to do so when the school became a comprehensive.
She was president and founder member of Tavistock Group of Artists and a founder of Kingdon House Community Association.
Miss Beadle served on Tavistock Town Council for some ten years and was mayor of the town in 1975/76.
Friend and former mayor Robin Fenner said he was ?very saddened? by her death.
Mr Fenner said: ?She was a good friend to everybody. She was the most human, artistic, caring person one could hope to find.
?Her background as an art teacher gave her the ability to talk to everyone, young and old ? she was very much a community person, there were no sides to her. She was just a very lovely lady.?
Miss Beadle died peacefully in her sleep last Thursday. A Quaker burial will be held at Tavistock Cemetery on Monday ? a memorial service will be held at Tavistock Parish Church on Saturday November 16 at 3pm.
